I was fortunate to be selected by the DSWA to join a small group of six professional wallers from all over Britain to travel to northern Italy and help with the construction of a dry stone retaining wall on the steep olive groves of Arnasco. The emphasis was on training, development and the promotion of what is very much a dying art.
We worked alongside dry stone wallers and stonemasons from France, Italy and Spain with each having their own regional style.
